High turnout as redesigned BASELWORLD opens

BASEL, Switzerland, April 25, 2013 - Footfall was brisk on the first day of BASELWORLD, the completely redesigned world show for watches and jewellery.

With their new stands, most of which are larger than before, exhibitors can showcase even better their products and brands.

"This year's edition of the world show for watches and jewellery represents a further milestone in the history of BASELWORLD," said Silvie Ritter, managing director of BASELWORLD.

"Thanks to the investments of our exhibitors, BASELWORLD is set to be even more of a globally unique show experience."

The redesign of BASELWORLD will consolidate the event's status as one of the leading international watches and jewellery shows.

"With the new buildings and infrastructure, we are orientating ourselves to the future," said Jacques J. Duchene, President of the Exhibitors' Committee.

"In this way we are safeguarding the significance of BASELWORLD as the leading show in the sector."

This year 1,460 companies are exhibiting, and more than 100,000 trade visitors from around the world are expected to attend the eight-day event.

The main watches halls featuring top brands such as Rolex and Patex Philippe, were brimming with trade visitors on the first morning of the show, crammed from retail buyers from overseas.

In 2013 Patek Philippe is presenting about 40 new models, including a new complicated movement with an eight-day power reserve in the men's Art Deco inspired Gondolo line.

Spanish jewellery brand Carrera y Carrera, again exhibiting at BASELWORLD this year, will be hoping to attract Far Eastern retail buyers.

"Our collections and designs are highly appreciated in Asia and during 2013/14 we will further develop the Asian market," CEO Svetlana Kuprianova said in an interview with the BASELWORLD Daily News.
