LONDON, June 9, 2013 - Brands exhibiting at the Jewellery Show London, organised by i2i Events Group, are set to showcase some of the hottest jewellery trends for the SS14 season.
According to Claire Foster, head of footwear and accessories at WGSN and the Jewellery Show London’s official trend partner, many of the designers exhibiting at the show, which takes place on June 11-12, have very successfully managed to integrate next season’s key trends into their collections.
One such brand identified by Foster as leading the way when it comes to SS14 jewellery trends is luxury fashion jewellery label CARAT* which, she says, has drawn on many of the surreal and kitsch designs that are gaining momentum in both fine and costume jewellery at the moment, with its use of playful lips and heart motifs in its collection.
Foster says: “Drawing on surrealist inspirations, a number of new directional jewellery designers have featured lips in recent collections, referencing the work of Dali and Schiaparelli which was highlighted in last year's MET Spring Costume exhibition.”
“Girly heart icons were also noted as a decorative motif during the AW 13 and emerging SS 14 accessories and footwear collections and transition from a sentimental jewellery adornment to more of a fashion statement,” she adds.
In addition CARAT* has also experimented with gemstones, colour and mixed materials which Foster believes gives the collection more of a statement feel.
Meanwhile, Chinese jewellery designer Fei Lui has integrated Palladium into his SS14 collection, which highlights the growing trend for the durable precious metal.

Foster says: “The use of Palladium plays into the essential element of investment and longevity of fine jewellery that we are seeing at this level.”
Additionally Fei Lui’s collection uses Chinese symbolism which evokes the spirit of artisan Chinese pieces that are increasingly being referenced for both the domestic Chinese market, responding to increasing desire for fine jewellery in this market, and internationally.
Foster adds: “Furthermore the use of peacock feathers alongside turquoise and diamonds in earrings references the trend we are seeing for mixed materials in fine jewellery, updating the more traditional solely gemstone pieces.”
