India’s GJEPC brings road show to London to promote IIJS trade show

LONDON, May 26, 2014 - India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council brought its road show to London to promote the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), a leading trade event showcasing outstanding Indian jewellery design and manufacturing.

At a packed gathering of UK jewellers at a renowned Indian restaurant in London on May 25, GJEPC Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray outlined India’s emergence as a global force in the gem and jewellery industry.

India, the origin of some of the world’s most historic diamonds, has built up an extraordinarily powerful position in the international gem and jewellery business.

Now 11 out of every 12 diamonds pass through India which has become a thriving diamond and jewellery manufacturing hub using state-of-the-art technologies.

India accounts for 65 percent of the world’s diamond production in terms of value and 80 percent by volume, according to a film shown to the trade audience.

Mr Ray said the international trade needs to work together to ensure that jewellery remains a priority purchase.

“We should fight together to make sure that jewellery retains its prominent position in luxury,” he said.

Demand for gems and jewellery faces stiff competition from other forms of luxury, from handbags to mobile phones and exotic holidays.

Mr Ray outlined the GJEPC’s support for the World Diamond Mark initiative to boost diamond jewellery sales around the world.

IIJS TRADE FAIR

The GJEPC organises India Pavilions at international jewellery trade fairs around the world to showcase the latest Indian jewellery designs.

IIJS, which will next take place in Mumbai on July 17-21, 2014, is the world’s fifth biggest gem and jewellery trade fair, attracting international retail buyers.

“IIJS is the ideal platform for exporters and manufacturers to meet jewellery buyers from around the world,” Mr Ray said.

IIJS takes place in conjunction with India International Fashion week (IIJW), a catwalk event with a Bollywood flavour featuring the latest Indian jewellery and fashion designs.

The GJEPC is offering to UK retailers and manufacturers who are interested to attend IIJS two nights 5-star hotel accommodation, transfers and access to networking events.

Those who are interested to attend should contact Mehul Lodhiya, GJEPC Honorary Coordinator in the UK, at the following email address:
