LONDON, August 31, 2014 – Turnout was strong on the first day of the International Jewellery London (IJL) trade fair at the new Olympia venue, auguring for strong orders before Christmas.
Simon Rainer, chief executive of the British Jewellers’ Association (BJA), outlined a new, jewellery specific Corporate Social Responsibility framework, which he has written in collaboration with experts in the field.
The document, subtitled Jewellers’ Social Responsibility, “A framework for your business”, helps jewellery businesses at all levels of the supply chain to move towards a more ethical industry.
IJL showcased the latest collections of leading UK and overseas brands and designers.
Many of the visitors on the first day of the show, a Sunday, were independent family-owned retailers, with multiple retailers expected to visit in greater numbers on Monday, September 1.
Among the designer brands at the show, Alexandra Morris Robson of Augustine Jewels spoke of brisk orders for her red and green gem-set gold Christmas cuffs; Babette Wasserman introduced her new Istanbul collection, inspired by mosaics seen on her travels to the Turkish city; and Arlene Katorza, designer of Scottish brand I Love a Lassie, spoke of strong interest in her new Hard-Wear collection, inspired by memories and mementos of her grandfather.
Cindy Dennis Mangan presented gorgeous diamond jewellery at her stand, and designer Raji Ashwin showed off her stunning Blaze collection designs from AmiAnna Jewellery, which launched last year.
