GJEPC organizes first India Jewellery Buyer Seller Meet in Kolkata

Kolkata, December 4, 2018 - The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) organized a two-day  India Jewellery Buyer-Seller Meet in Kolkata on December 4 and 5, 2018.

Jewellers from countries including Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, UK and USA, took part.

This initiative aims to offer a gateway to a huge potential market, which will further boost investment and trade opportunities.

The objective of the first trade meet at Kolkata is to invite key business decision makers from these countries and arrange one-to-one meetings with the prominent 24 Indian jewellery manufacturers who will be showcasing the latest plain gold crafted jewellery and studded jewellery.

Addressing the gathering, Smt Rupa Dutta, Economic Advisor of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said, “The gems and jewellery sector forms a very important part of our export basket -- 14-16 percent. It is a priority sector for the government of India.

“I would like to emphasise that the government has been specially nurturing the gems and jewellery sector due to its high employability.

“The eastern part of India, especially Bengal, contributes to the Indian jewellery eco-system, as a large number of jewellery workers who are known for their skills, especially for hand-made jewellery designs, are from Bengal.

“Kolkata jewellery is much sought after and well-known the world over.

“One of the major purposes of organizing this kind of buyer seller meet is to promote exquisite handcrafted jewellery and enhance value addition, improve the branding of our jewellery and attain a better place in the international market.”
