Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council opens search for team members

LONDON, November 2019 - The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GC&DC), created in 1908 to uphold and promote design and craftsmanship skills in the UK jewellery and silversmithing trades, has announced two new openings within its team.

The roles come as Brian Hill, long-time consultant secretary of both the Council and its highly-revered annual awards, The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards, makes the decision to reduce his daily work on behalf of the Council.

Hill has been part of the Council for 28 years, serving as chairman in [2001-2003], and moving into the consultancy secretary role in 2012. His inimitable drive and passion for the trade is reflected in the many connections and relationships he has built for the Council during his tenure.

Hill will retain the role of Industry Consultant for the GC&DC, assisting with securing crucial funding support needed to organise and host its annual prestigious Awards, and working closely with supporting brands and individuals from the UK, Europe and international trades.

As the Goldsmiths’ Council works toward an exciting future, it will be looking for two new people to join its operations team: a Senior Consultant and an Events and Administration Coordinator. These are focused on the daily functions of the Council, its activity in the UK industry, and the organisation and execution of its annual Awards, which takes place in February each year at London’s prestigious Goldsmiths’ Hall.

Both consultants will report directly to and work closely with the Council’s chairman Peter Crump and vice-chair Kathryn Bishop, alongside its seven other Trustees.

Speaking of the roles, chairman Peter Crump says: ‘I’d firstly like to say a huge thank you to Brian Hill for his brilliant work, dedication and drive to support the Council in its ambitions over the last 28 years. He has become, in many ways, the face of the Council, and is admired and respected across the trade for his dedication to inspire, support and encourage others. Therefore, we are thrilled that he will continue to work with us as our Industry Consultant.’

Crump adds: ‘We’re also very excited to announce the two opportunities to join the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council, as we build our Awards and reach further. We will be pleased to welcome applications from candidates that are highly organised, flexible and keen to work with brilliant jewellery designers and craftspeople from across the UK. I look forward to the applications and kickstarting 2020 with some new faces among our team.’

Brian Hill, who has worked in the UK industry for more than 50 years, says he is looking forward to a little more free time, but is keen to remain a supporter of Council through his role as its Industry Consultant. He says: ‘I love my work and involvement in this industry, and the competition has been a major and important part of my career. It epitomises what I have always believed in and practised; encouraging, promoting and celebrating excellence and great practice. I am looking forward to doing more of the same in my role as GC&DC’s industry consultant’
