Alrosa to supply $500 million of rough diamonds to Antwerp firms

ANTWERP, BELGIUM, April 8, 2009 [AFNS] – Russian diamond group Alrosa is to supply 15 Antwerp diamond firms with rough diamonds worth $500 million through to the end of this year.
The supply of goods is part of a rough diamond distribution agreement signed with the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
Under the terms of the agreement, the supply of rough diamonds may be extended beyond December 2009.

The AWDC reported a “cautious rise” recently in demand for rough diamonds following six months of plunging sales.
“We are very happy to announce this and welcome Alrosa’s decision to resume its trading activities in Antwerp. This clearly demonstrates Alrosa’s trust in our structure and solid foundations,” said AWDC’s CEO Freddy J. Hanard.
