The star of the upcoming Bonhams Fine Gems, Opals and Lapidary Arts sale on May 2 in Los Angeles, is a Burmese 20.36 carat exceptional red spinel (estimate $350,000-450,000), faceted as an “old world” cushion-cut.
It was discovered in the 1970s and combines exceptional color, clarity and luster as well as unheard of size.
