CHANEL BRACELET AND EARRING SET SELLS FOR FOUR TIMES ITS ESTIMATE
LONDON- A significant collection of Chanel costume jewellery led the Luxury Gift online sale on 30 November- 9 December, 2022. The selection included examples of Chanel Gripoix created under the leadership of Karl Lagerfeld (1933– 2019) and famed French jewellery designer Victoire de Castellane who worked with Chanel between 1984-1998.
The 378-lot Luxury Gift sale saw 80% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
The star of the auction was a rare, faceted clear quartz crystal and Gripoix Maltese cross necklace, circa 1993. The vintage necklace set in a gilt frame and decorated with multicolour Gripoix cabochons and diamante stones worn on a black leather cord achieved £9,563, surpassing its pre-sale estimate by eleven times.

The sale marks the end of the most successful year for the Bonhams Designer Handbag and Fashion department to date, with amazing results in London, Paris, New York, and Hong Kong. The London sales calendar has been incredibly full, with two highly successful single owner auctions, three live handbag auctions and two-timed online sales resulting in a 137% year-on-year increase on hammer prices with the average lot price doubling year on year, demonstrating the current desire for quality, pre-loved designer pieces in the market.”
Another significant lot was a multicolour Chanel Gripoix hearts bracelet and earrings set by Victoire de Castellane, circa 1993. The gold-plated chain bracelet with individually crafted glass hearts in turquoise, blue, green, orange, and pink encased in a CC trim, was accompanied by matching turquoise heart clip earrings. The set achieved £5,738, four times its pre-sale estimate.
