LONDON – A rare and exceptional diamond ring dating from the period of Charles I, set with table-cut diamonds, within closed-back settings, circa 1648, was the highlight at Bonhams, Knightsbridge Jewels on 2 May, 2024.

By family repute, the ring was given to Thomas Hutchinson MP (1589-1643), for allegiance to King Charles I.

The date inscribed on the ring, 30th January 1648, is a year to the day before Charles I’s execution.

The historic jewel surpassed its top estimate by over three times to achieve £19,200.
