Online competition is open to all aspiring jewelry designers
The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest independent gemological laboratory, invites the world’s creatives to enter their free online jewelry design competition, the IGI Expressions™ Awards.
Open to everyone, from young students and emerging designers to seasoned professionals, the Institute is accepting submissions through January 20, 2024, at www.igi.org/expressions. Since its inception in 2021, IGI Expressions™ has attracted more than 1,000 design submissions from over two dozen countries.
This year’s theme is “Abstract Design and Retro Motifs.” Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from their everyday surroundings, personal stories, and individual experiences as they approach this fusion of design and theme; to compose an experiential ‘visual symphony’ that transcends time – blending yesteryear’s charm with modern design elements.
Participants can submit in three design categories, Statement Piece, Convertible Jewelry and Perfume Bottle or Jewelry Box. Each category features separate segments to accommodate different submission preferences; by hand-drawn Sketch, Computer Assisted Design (CAD) file or iPad file. Approximately 50 designs will become competition finalists, from which nine champions will be selected, one in each submission segment, for each of the three categories.
“IGI is specialized in grading jewelry around the world,” IGI CEO Tehmasp Printer said. “We witness the vital role creativity plays in designing gemstone jewelry that moves and inspires others. IGI is pleased to invite jewelry enthusiasts around the world to participate and be recognized, as we continue to encourage and support creative talent.”
All competition participants will receive an official IGI Expressions™ Certificate. Finalists will receive Finalist Certificates, coverage on the IGI GemBlog and exposure on IGI’s social channels. The nine winners will see their designs fabricated by a contest partner, receive a $500 check (sanctioned regions excluded) an IGI Expressions™ Trophy, Certificate, and 3D prints of the design, as well as recognition via press coverage, IGI GemBlog and social channels. The winners will be announced on February 1, 2024.
