A director at luxury jewellers Laings has been recognised for her outstanding achievements in watchmaking at a prestigious industry event held in London on November 9, 2023.
Serena Gough, who was recently appointed to Laings board of directors, was awarded ‘Watchmaker of the Year’ at the WatchPro Awards, which recognises standout individuals and businesses across the industry, dedicated to the craft of horology.
Serena was selected by the editors of the publication for the special recognition award for her outstanding contribution to the growth and management of Laings Services, alongside her passion and dedication to watchmaking.
The accolade follows a string of achievements from Laings, as the family-run business has focused on driving multiple enhancements to its showrooms and services through a dedicated programme of investment across its UK-wide estate.
A particular focus on craftmanship and watchmaking has been overseen by Serena, with a new, state-of-the-art watch workshop which recently opened in Glasgow representing just one of the ways the brand is continuing to ensure skills are nurtured and developed within the sector.
Joe Walsh, CEO of Laings, said: “Serena is an exceptional talent, and a true pillar of the watchmaking industry, who deserves recognition for her passion and dedication to the craft and to the business.
“This year, Serena has recruited and trained 20 new members of our Laings team. She has done this not only by focusing on up-skilling existing Laings employees and providing alternative career pathways, but also through connections with the British School of Watchmaking and with watchmakers from overseas.
“Serena has played a pivotal role in establishing our new watch workshop in Glasgow, which is the largest in Scotland. She was recently recognised internally, with her appointment to the board of directors. Serena wholeheartedly deserves the recognition for her incredible career journey so far, which we are confident will continue to develop even further.”
Laings was shortlisted for the ‘Multi-Generational Retailer of the Year’ award at the awards ceremony.
