Hatton Garden-based Mingems offers a wide selection of responsibly sourced Sri Lankan and Madagascan sapphires in an array of colours, with consumer tastes in the UK now leaning to cornflower blue, and sunset-colour, orangeish-pink padparadscha.

Mingems is a third-generation supplier of high-quality sapphires, mined mainly in Sri Lanka – typically blues, pinks, purples and padparadschas – and in Madagascar, such as teals and pinks, company director Minshaf Minsar told Jewellery Outlook.
Here are some examples of sapphires currently in stock:
The company has developed longstanding relationships with the mining and broking communities in Sri Lanka, and can track the gemstones it sources from mine to office.
Minshaf moved to the UK from Sri Lanka to develop distribution of the sapphires to the retail market.
“The sapphire market is very hot in the UK, and around the world,” he said.
“As diamond prices have risen so much, there is value opportunity in sapphires.”

Mingems, a member of the NAJ and the London Diamond Bourse, is focusing now on developing trade ties among UK independent retailers, and will exhibit at the hotly anticipated Jewellery Show, a trade event scheduled to take place at ExCel on September 5-6, 2022.
Mingems offers special discounts to gemmology students, young jewellery designers and young gemstone dealers.
“We wish to support young people coming into the industry,” Minshaf said.

In the UK, Mingems offers next-day delivery, and will offer 7-day returns when its planned e-commerce site goes live.
