Christie’s Hong Kong magnificent jewels sale realises US$75 million
Hong Kong – Christie’s Hong Kong sale of Magnificent Jewels on November 27, 2012, achieved HK$580,238,250 (US$75,256,901), and sold 80% by lot and 82% by value.
“Exceptional Colombian emeralds and Burmese rubies, as well as D Flawless diamonds, made top prices in an eight-hour auction that achieved US$75 million,” said Vickie Sek, Director and Head of the Jewellery & Jadeite Department, Christie’s Asia.
“Private collectors from all over the Asia-Pacific region, which represented 90% of the buyers, showed great depth across the board. The strength of the region was clearly apparent with competitive bidding throughout the day, confirming the role of Hong Kong as a major auction centre for every category.”
