Christie’s saw a strong sell-through rate at its May 12, 2021, Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction, with top lots meeting and exceeding pre-sale estimates.

The Spectacle, a rectangular cut, D colour, IF diamond of 100.94 carats, garnered 12.8 million Swiss francs, within its 12-18 million Swiss francs pre-sale estimate.Christies Spectacle

Another much-anticipated lot, the Braganza Crown, a 19th century sapphire and diamond crown, achieved 1.77 million Swiss francs, soaring above its 170,000-350,000 Swiss francs pre-sale estimate.

Max Fawcett, Head of Department and auctioneer, said: “Christie’s saw strong bidding from all over the world both online and on the telephone, with clients back in the room for the first time in over a year.

“With a sell-through rate of 91% by lot and 98% by value, the market demonstrated incredible strength, and prices were strong in both diamonds as well as historic and signed jewellery. Very exciting and we look forward to our successful sales in Paris, London, Hong Kong and finally New York to conclude the Spring season.”
