Clarice Price-Thomas wins One to Watch prize at Holts Academy Awards
LONDON, May 2013 – Up-and-coming designer Clarice Price-Thomas, whose designs are inspired by clocks and watches, won the One to Watch prize at the Holts Academy Awards at Guildhall in central London on May 7.
The award that recognises achievement since graduating and future potential was sponsored by BJA, who gave membership and mentoring for a year, and Astley Clarke who will give online retailing advice.
“It’s really nice to have won this recognition having done a lot since graduating from Holts,” Clarice told Jewellery Outlook at the event.
In February, Clarice, the daughter of a watch and clock maker, presented her selection of jewels inspired by clocks and watches, in sterling silver plated with 18-karat yellow gold, at German trade fair INHORGENTA MUNICH.
Clarice designs jewellery which combines her interests in machinery, movements, mechanisms and antiques, with an elegant design philosophy. Her debut collection, Time, was heavily inspired by the unseen inside clocks and watches.
“It’s all inspired by my upbringing as the daughter of a watch and clockmaker,” Clarice said.
“I use my dad’s traditional watchmaking machines to cut all the gears that feature in the jewellery.
“My pieces are quite unusual. My pieces have a luxury feel and a lovely story behind them.”
Clarice was a Kickstart designer at International Jewellery London (IJL) in 2012.
