Directory of UK’s finest contemporary jewellery launches

LONDON, October 2014 – The Goldsmiths’ Company – organisers of the Goldsmiths’ Fair – has launched a new, free-to-view online directory, www.thegoldsmithsdirectory.co.uk , encouraging consumers to buy direct from UK jewellers and silversmiths.
The Goldsmiths’ Directory showcases the work of over 350 UK-based designer-makers. The state-of-the-art new site is image-led, easy to navigate and a superb research tool for consumers and style/design journalists alike.
Visitors can browse, search for particular designer-makers or input key words relating to materials (e.g. diamonds), item types (e.g. engagement rings), styles (e.g. organic) or techniques (e.g. Mokume Gane). All search results appear as images which lead on to further info, contact details and images.
The website will be regularly updated with news from individual makers and features ranging from Valentine’s Day gifts to men’s jewellery.
Featured designer-makers are first vetted by an expert panel assembled by The Goldsmiths’ Company. The panel inspects physical objects submitted as part of the application process, as well as biographical information, professional qualifications and documentary photography.
Acceptance is a significant accolade for makers and serves as a quality guarantee for consumers.
Featured jewellers currently include Jacqueline Mina OBE, Tom Rucker, Ingo Henn and Hannah Martin.
Featured silversmiths include Rod Kelly, Alistair McCallum and Brett Payne.
