Fabergé continues its annual tradition of seasonal surprises with a captivating locket featuring the ‘king of beasts’ – the tiger – in time for the forthcoming Lunar New Year.

Fabergé’s collection of Chinese zodiac animal surprises, which are part of the Fabergé Heritage collection, celebrate Fabergé’s love of surprise and wit and showcase complex traditional techniques, such as the delicate art of guilloché enamelling and hand-engraving.

The Lunar New Year Collection

The forthcoming lunar new year celebrates the Year of the Tiger, and marks a very special year, as it shares the same Chinese zodiac year as 1842, the year Fabergé was founded, and coincides with the 180-year anniversary of the Maison, thus bringing history full circle.

People who are born in the Year of the Tiger are known for possessing traits such as bravery, competitiveness, self-confidence and courage; people born under this sign are thought to be natural leaders.

The Lunar New Year Collection

Peter Carl Fabergé was renowned for creating quirky little animals from hardstone as charms and ornaments. Art historians have described these animals – the Fabergé menagerie – as possessing ‘psychologically interpretive aspects’, or human-like qualities.

The accentuation of specific characteristics of each subject also gave them distinctive personalities. Fabergé often combined these hardstones with precious metals and coloured gems, seamlessly integrating each with the other to create miniature works of art. This precious tiger is, therefore, a perfect example of Fabergé’s trademark style.

The Fabergé Heritage Yellow Gold Diamond & Red Guilloché Enamel Year of the Tiger Surprise Locket ($10,500/£9,600) is available to purchase at selected Fabergé boutiques and on Faberge.com. For more information or to book a virtual or in-person appointment, please contact [email protected].
