Unwind after BASELWORLD: visit the German Black Forest
FELDBERG, Germany, April 3, 2011 – A ski holiday in the German Black Forest is the perfect way to unwind after a challenging week at BASELWORLD.
Some slopes were still open at the end of March at Feldberg, above the delightful Hotel Feldberger Hof, with private ski lessons available at a local ski school for 38 euros an hour.
A daily ski pass costs 24 euros per person, granting access to well-run ski lifts. Boots and ski hire cost 60 euros for three days. Slopes were not considered difficult, visitors said.
It was low season in Feldberg in late March as BASELWORLD, just over an hour’s drive away, wrapped up, so rooms were widely available in the family-owned hotels located deep in the Black Forest where standards of service and cuisine are excellent.
Try the Sommerberg Hotel-Restaurant in Feldberg, which has its own sauna, an ideal way to relax after a day’s skiing or hiking.
The nearby Hotel Adler has a superb restaurant with fantastic views of the Black Forest.
The local hotels hand out vouchers to guests enabling them to travel for free on the scenic train trip to Freiburg, celebrated for its historic Münster.
Taste a slice of Black Forest Gateau, generously laced with cherries, and a creamy hot chocolate in front of the Hotel Rappen in Münsterplatz before exploring the church.
