Gem & Jewelry Institute of Thailand announces jewellery design awards finalists

BANGKOK, June 9, 2018 – The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT, as well as judges in gems and jewellery design, have chosen five jewellery designs to enter the final round of the GIT’s World Jewelry Design Awards 2018.

The designs will be made into jewellery pieces before entering the final round of the competition on September 7, 2018 at the 62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair to be held at Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.

Those interested may cast their votes for the Popular Design Award 2018 by choosing the best design from 20 designs that had been selected in the first round.

GIT “This year the contest is held under the theme of ‘The Pearl of Wisdom – Illumination from under the Surface’ as we would like to promote pearls to become more widely recognized. Contestants must utilize pearl or mother of pearl as the centerpiece of the jewellery design,” said Duangkamol Jiambutr, Director of GIT.

“Moreover, the design must be able to be manufactured and sold, which will create further opportunities for a career in jewellery production.

“In this year’s contest, 333 designs were submitted, with 157 of these from Thailand and 176 from overseas. The judges have chosen 20 designs in the first round and five designs that received the highest scores in the second round.

“These five designs will be made into jewellery pieces where each one will be beautiful and unique in their own way, showcasing the ability of designers who can use different materials creatively. We are excited to see how beautiful the designs will become as jewellery pieces.”

For this contest, the GIT welcomes experienced judges in jewellery design: Suriyon Sriorathaikul, Managing Director of Beauty Gems Factory; Saran Somrak, Marketing Director of Phuket Pearl Group;  Peerawat Suraseth, Managing Director of L.S. Jewelry Group; Chanchai Lertkulthanon, Vice President, Group Manufacturing, New Product Introduction of PANDORA PRODUCTION CO., LTD.; and Kim Tae-Hyung, Director of Jewelry Center, Jewelry Small Traders and Enterprisers Specialization Support Center from South Korea.

GIT The five final designs are: “Atom” by Kitisak Maicharoen; “Poseidon” by Jirawat Somsnor; “Sparkle Light of Undersea” by Sippakorn Oudkom; “Arise” by Supatchana Limwongse; and “The Blooming of Wisdom” by Indika Wijayarathna from Saudi Arabia.

These five designs, which received the highest scores, will be made into jewellery pieces and will be exhibited at the 62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair to be held from September 7 to 11, 2018 at Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, along with the 20 designs that passed the first round of the contest. Most importantly, the winner will be announced on September 7, 2018 at the event.

In this contest, winners will receive a total of $9,000 in prize money or over THB 315,000 with a trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol.

Awards will be divided into two categories: the award from the decision of the judges, and the Popular Design Award 2018 that is open for the public to vote from the 20 top designs through www.git.or.th from June 18, 2018 onwards.
