Gerald Ratner to talk at UK Jewellery Business Conference in October
BIRMINGHAM, England, September 13, 2014 – The man who famously referred to his jewellery as ‘total crap’ is to talk candidly about his business ups and downs at the UK Jewellery Business Conference in Birmingham on the 7th and 8th October.
Gerald Ratner
Gerald Ratner will discuss the famous gaffe that led to the breakup of his business as the world’s largest jewellery retailer and how he has managed to claw his way back since then.
Ratner will be joining host Bill Turnbull from BBC’s Breakfast show and a line up of other speakers from the jewellery and watch world as well as the wider retail industry, including John Timpson, Andrew McMillan from John Lewis, author Damian Hughes and jewellery trends and branding expert Paola De Luca.

Organised by The Company of Master Jewellers and open to all CMJ retail members and approved suppliers, the two-day conference is being held under the theme of ‘Brilliant Together’ and is sponsored by TH March insurance, V12 Finance and Gem-A.
The not-for-profit event is organised by the CMJ as a service to its retail members and approved suppliers as one of the many benefits of belonging to the UK’s biggest jewellery buying group.
Networking seminars for both retailers and suppliers will be held during the second day of the conference to discuss issues facing the jewellery and watch industry and address ways in which the industry can work more effectively, profitably and collaboratively.
CMJ chief executive Willie Hamilton says: “Where else can suppliers and retailers in our great sector, meet over two days to exchange views, learn from each other and build solid, mutually beneficial relationships?
“Brilliant Together sums up the relationship between the CMJ, its members and suppliers, and also reflects the burgeoning growth of activity between us all. We are good for each other.”
