Graff acquires the “Peace Diamond”

December 5, 2017 – Laurence Graff has added another magnificent stone to Graff’s roll call of famous diamonds – the 709 carat ‘Peace Diamond’.

The 2nd largest rough diamond ever discovered in Sierra Leone, the Peace Diamond was unearthed near the village of Koryardu, by a team of five artisanal diggers supported by the village Pastor, Emmanuel Momo.

All proceeds from the sale will be directed through the Sierra Leone government and Pastor Momo to benefit the country, village and community where the diamond was found.

Pastor Emmanuel Momo said: “The Peace Diamond will greatly improve the lives of our people as it will bring clean water, electricity, schools, medical facilities, bridges and roads to our villages and the Kono District.

“This diamond represents our hope for a better future as the resources of Sierra Leone fund growth, development and jobs.”
Graff acquires the “Peace Diamond” Commenting on the purchase, Laurence Graff said: “It is an honour to have acquired this magnificent rough diamond – and that its sale will directly benefit a country in desperate need. It is always special to be able to give back to the places that provide us with these beautiful stones.

“Every diamond that passes through our hands is imbued with our passion and expertise. Our expert team of gemologists will now begin to assess the exquisite internal beauty of Mother Nature’s finest raw material.

“Who knows the story that the Peace Diamond will tell in years to come. At this moment, the story of this diamond marks an important chapter for the people of Sierra Leone.”

The acquisition of the Peace Diamond continues a recognised investment from Graff Diamonds and Laurence Graff in giving back to diamond producing countries of Africa. For further information, please visit
