By Beth Dawson, Head of Department at Elmwood’s
Elmwood’s are excited to showcase four beautiful tiaras, ranging from 19th century to modern, in our upcoming Fine Jewellery two-day auction taking place on the 10th and 11th August, 2022.
The first of our beautiful tiaras is lot 68, a 19th century antique convertible tourmaline and diamond tiara/necklace. Set in yellow gold and silver, the tiara is formed of a series of seven links set with emerald cut green tourmalines within a foliate border of old cut diamonds. The links are accented by further old cut diamond drops and the central link suspends a detachable pear cut tourmaline and diamond drop which can be detached and worn separately as a pendant.
There are over 70 carats of green tourmalines in the piece and it can be worn as a tiara or necklace, or as a tiara and pendant.

Our second tiara is lot 97, a modern diamond bandeau tiara, designed as a series of woven ribbons set with round and single cut diamonds.

Our third tiara is lot 139, a rare and important Ceylon sapphire and diamond tiara accompanied by a matching pair of earrings and detachable from the frame to form a necklace.
The tiara is set with 29 graduated cushion-cut blue sapphires totalling over 115 carats, each within a cluster of round brilliant-cut diamonds totalling over 36 carats. The piece is accompanied by a gemmological report stating that the sapphires are of Ceylon (Sri Lankan) origin, with no indications of heat treatment.
Lot 139 is a truly magnificent piece. Ceylon sapphires are highly sought after for their beautiful colour, and it is rare to see so many well-matched unheated stones in one piece of jewellery.

Lastly, lot 185 is a 1950s diamond tiara that can be converted and worn as a necklace. The piece comprises the woven chain suspending a scrolling fringe set with 20 carats of round brilliant diamonds accented by further single cut diamonds.

The tiaras are available to be viewed by appointment at our Notting Hill studio. For more information please contact 44 207 096 8933.
Elmwood’s Fine Jewellery auction will take place on Wednesday 10th August featuring lots 1-255 and on Thursday 11th August featuring lots 256-519.
