Jeweller Hirsh London has announced a new collaboration with Bellerby & Co Globemakers, inspired by Sophia and Jason Hirsh’s love of travel.
Hirsh have found a symmetry with Bellerby & Co Globemakers as each unique globe created by them is handmade in their London atelier – just as Hirsh jewellery is made by hand in their Mayfair atelier.
The globes were designed by Sophia and Jason Hirsh during England’s first lockdown in March 2020, with help from their children – a unique home-schooling geography project!
The globes are created in resin and are weighted so that they gently come to rest when spun.
Bellerby & Co’s highly skilled cartographers then create the maps that are printed on paper gores and cut by hand.
The gores are then wet and stretched across the sphere before they are painted by hand and finished with a matte or gloss finish.
The bases of the globes are designed exclusively by Hirsh London and are made of British oak, painted in the signature Hirsh blue, with a fine sterling silver collar that beautifully reflects the globe above.
The base features Bellerby & Co’s innovative roller bearing mechanism which effortlessly allows 360-degree rotation of the globe in all directions.
