LAS VEGAS, June 2019 – Visitor numbers were high and order flow appeared brisk at the JCK Las Vegas trade show, which ran from May 31 to June 3, and IJL boosted its global profile with a well-attended networking event on the sidelines of JCK.

IJL held a “London in Las Vegas” cocktail on June 1 coinciding with JCK to highlight its appeal to international buyers and suppliers.

The IJL event, staged at the CANONITA restaurant in the Grand Canal Shoppes, was crammed with specially invited members of the international trade, attended by around 80 people, including senior representatives of CIBJO-World Jewellery Confederation, the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), and diamond suppliers including a De Beers Sightholder and lab grown diamond executives, as well as industry influencers with tens of thousands of followers on Instagram.

Upbeat mood at JCK

JCK, held at Sands Expo in downtown Las Vegas, took place in a festive atmosphere against a backdrop of a robust U.S. economy.

The show was a vibrant selling event, with many booths crammed with retailers ordering new stock.

Le Vian, whose wide variety of coloured natural diamond jewellery is stocked by Ernest Jones in the UK, staged a catwalk event at JCK to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Chocolate Diamonds.

Le Vian have pinpointed value in gem-quality fancy dark brown diamonds, which they trademarked as Chocolate Diamonds.

“We can help make millions of people become collectors of natural diamonds,” CEO Eddie Le Vian said.

UK exhibitors at JCK

UK exhibitors at JCK included award-winning Birmingham-based designer Fei Liu, widely stocked in the UK and China, who reported brisk sales, including a masterpiece necklace, and said he would return to the Las Vegas show next year.

De Beers Group Industry Services had a high profile presence at JCK to showcase their state-of-the-art diamond detection capabilities.

A large contingent of lab grown diamond suppliers exhibited at JCK, underscoring the growing requirement across the global industry for efficient diamond detection to counter mixing of undisclosed lab grown diamonds with natural stones in the supply chain.

IJL in 2019 will be a great opportunity for natural and lab grown diamond suppliers.

Madestones, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of lab grown diamonds, whose representatives attended the IJL cocktail in Las Vegas, has already signed up for IJL.

Trends

Italy-based jewellery analyst Paola De Luca, founder of The Futurist, a luxury market intelligence agency, gave a talk during jewellery week in Las Vegas about how the digital era will impact on jewellery design.

“Overall the market seems vibrant,” De Luca said, referring to the Las Vegas jewellery shows.

“Some companies were busier than others as always, not only based on having good or bad products, but linked to how active they are in sales and communications.”
