IJL launches Editors’ Choice Awards for 2017 with new format and categories
LONDON, March 12, 2017 – IJL has announced the launch of the highly regarded exhibitor Editors’ Choice Awards for 2017.
In this ninth year, the competition has been extended to include a new format, together with new categories, to reflect the breadth of innovative and commercial talent across all sectors of the show.
Four awards will be judged pre-show with the winners revealed in June, followed by a further four new categories judged during IJL by an extended panel of industry media editors.
The pre-show Editors’ Choice competition is now open for entries, with IJL exhibitors able to nominate their pieces and collections for any of the four categories (detailed below). Judging will take place in May by Claire Adler, the high profile, luxury communications consultant and Financial Times contributor, and Event Director, Sam Willoughby.
Sam Willoughby says: “Always a high point of the event, these very competitive Awards carry considerable kudos with both exhibitors and visitors alike. The new format and categories at the show give every level of exhibitor an even greater chance to shine, both before and during IJL – from new to returning brands, from young to established designers. The benefits of winning are considerable, attracting valuable recognition within the industry, as well as great PR. And what is particularly gratifying is that so many of the winners go on to receive yet more accolades within the sector.”
Claire Adler adds: “I’ve been an Editors’ Choice judge at IJL since it began in 2009 and it’s a highlight of my annual calendar. The competition is designed to inspire buyers as they navigate the show, while also recognising gifted designers and dynamic businesses that are making their mark on the jewellery industry. In 2017, I’m on the lookout for those who put their heart and soul into what they do, with quite literally show stopping results.”
The 2016 winners are unanimous in their recognition of the benefits of winning an Editors’ Choice Award. Giedra Jeanneret of Samsares, winner of Commercial Vision 2016, explains: “Winning was amazingly motivating, giving me confidence and acknowledgement. My brand was featured in the IJL media and this attracted visitors to my stand. I got a lot of valuable feedback which helped me to understand the strengths and weaknesses of my brand, sharpen my business vision and determine the strategy of positioning my jewellery on the market. It was a truly valuable experience.”
Vicky Lew, winner of Overall Originality 2016, agrees: “Winning the Editors’ Choice Award provided a huge boost of exposure to my brand. Being a new designer, this gave me recognition and attention that extended far beyond the end of the show.”
The Editors’ Choice Award categories are:
