Indian diamond companies urged to cease rough imports

Indian trade groups, including the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), have urged the industry to voluntarily suspend rough imports in order to stabilise diamond prices.

“As demand precipitously dried up in every single market, manufacturers feared that even a reduction of diamond production would not be enough to stop a loss of value on inventory,” GJEPC said in a statement.
