India’s GJEPC leads trade delegation to Pakistan

MUMBAI, June 11, 2012 – India’s gem and jewellery export promotion arm, the GJEPC, led a 12-member delegation to the Pakistan International Gems & Jewellery Exhibition held in Karachi from June 7 – 11, 2012.
The delegation was led by Sanjay Kothari, Vice Chairman of the GJEPC. Following a visit in February during which the GJEPC organised a jewellery pavilion called the ‘India Show’ with 17 top Indian participants in Lahore, the GJEPC aims to build a strong bilateral trade relationship with Pakistan in gems and jewellery.

In addition to attending the Pakistan International Gems & Jewellery Exhibition, the delegation planned to visit gem and jewellery trade organisations, associations and key retailers in Pakistan to identify potential areas for developing bilateral trade.
“There has been limited trade between the Pakistani gem and jewellery traders and their Indian counterparts essentially via Dubai,” Kothari said.
“The Council has identified an opportunity to visit the Pakistan Gem and Jewellery trade show, and to present to the local trade Indian talent and business potential, with the objective of enhancing trade and forging links directly between India and Pakistan.”
