India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) inaugurated the India Rough Gemstones Sourcing Show 2021 (IRGSS 2021), taking place from 13th March 2021 to 19th April 2021 in Jaipur.
The show features rough emerald supplies from Zambia and rough rubies from Mozambique. The travel restrictions due to the pandemic have limited manufacturing in India as coloured gemstones are largely imported.
The main objective of the show is to provide direct sourcing of rough gemstones for Indian gemstone manufacturers so that they do not have to travel to mining countries.
Colin Shah, Chairman, GJEPC said, “Jaipur is the global hub for cutting and polishing of coloured gemstones. It processes more than 300 different varieties of precious and semi-precious gemstones which include emerald, tanzanite, morganite and many other gemstones. However, being an import-oriented industry, the availability of good quality rough gemstones is a prerequisite for the sector.
“By organising the India Rough Gemstones Sourcing Show, the GJEPC is making sure that export activities can resume at full throttle, with manufacturing getting back to normal as the Covid crisis eases.”
