The Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 (WJI 2030), in its first stakeholder report, has called for accelerated action by the global industry to work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs.)

“A central message that emerges from all stakeholders interviewed is the need for all
actors to rise to the urgent task and deliver on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals,” WJI 2030 Co-Chairs Marie-Claire Daveu and Cyrille Vigneron, and Executive Director Iris Van Der Veken, wrote in an introduction to the report.

“Collaborative leadership is key as no single organisation or sector has all the knowledge and resources that are needed to make real progress.”

The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 objectives designed to serve as a “blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future”. The SDGs emphasize the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development by putting sustainability at their centre.

Iris Van Der Veken said, “Multi-stakeholder consultation is a fundamental part of the WJI 2030, and we aim to embed this approach into all that we do.

“Over 80 organisations took part in this multi-stakeholder consultation that has surfaced clear priority issues with respect to governance, leadership, strategy and operations. We will continue to do consultation in the coming months as our initiative evolves.”
