Jewellery & Watch announce Italy as Country of Focus for 2017

BIRMINGHAM, England – Jewellery & Watch have recognised that bringing the very best jewellery collections from around the globe is essential for independent retail jewellers to stand out on the high street. Italy has a thriving jewellery industry and is the obvious choice for the country of focus for 2017.

The continued investment and market focus on Italy and Southern Europe has resulted in the appointment of new Country Manager, Maria Rosaria Nastri. Maria will be promoting the UK market to Italian brands and suppliers as a platform for route-to-market. Maria is delighted to take on this all-important role for the upcoming show in 2017, emphasising that the UK jewellery market is one of the leading destinations for foreign businesses.

Jewellery and Watch announce Italy as Country of Focus for 2017 Tell us about yourself Maria?

I am from the Amalfi Coast, Salerno, and feel very fortunate to have grown up in such a beautiful part of Italy with so much to offer – history and culture, a beautiful coastline, countryside and fabulous food (the birthplace of pizza!)

I am passionate about consultative selling and digital marketing and came to the UK two years ago to seek an international career in sales working for Trip Advisor. I managed a portfolio of 30 accounts and achieved sales with large Italian tourist attraction groups.

Could you tell us about your new role at Jewellery & Watch and what it entails?

I will be engaging with Italian jewellery associations, export promotion councils and local bodies to educate them on the opportunity that the UK jewellery and watch market presents and increase their brand awareness.

I look forward to regularly travelling to Italy and Southern Europe in search of new Italian brands and suppliers as well as key retailers who are interested in attending the show to source new collections at the beginning of the calendar year.

What have you enjoyed most about your role so far?

Since joining Jewellery & Watch at Ascential plc, I have been impressed with the passion of the team and the outstanding culture and work ethic.

I am really excited to be working for the leading B2B events company for the retail sector with so many strong retail brands in the international market place; Jewellery & Watch as part of Spring Fair, Autumn Fair, Pure London and World Retail Congress. The Ascential values are instilled in every employee across the business and because of this it makes for a great place to work.

Who is your inspiration and why?

Since I was young, I have had a strong sense of independence. I have been inspired by all the women who by themselves were able to roll up their sleeves and embrace, with determination, their mission in the workplace – at home and in society. I have worked hard to create my own opportunities, to continuously improve myself and learn. I am proud of what I have achieved so far and am honoured by this great opportunity with Jewellery & Watch to support Italian jewellery and “Made in Italy” brands for the UK.

What advice would you give Italian brands and suppliers looking to export to the UK as a new market?

I always start by emphasising that the UK jewellery market value is around £4 billion, and that the market enjoyed growth of 1.2% last year. It is well known that the UK is one of the leading destinations for foreign businesses and has received the highest number of foreign direct investment projects in Europe, helped by its highly competitive business environment.

To help any international business enter into the UK, either selling directly to retailers or by setting up their own jewellery distribution, the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the UK Government network of international offices is a good first point of contact.

Ascential have a strong partnership with the UKTI across all our trade events and we have a dedicated team to manage this partnership effectively. We put in a huge effort to promote our new exhibitors, 365 days a year, in particular international exhibitors, ensuring they are invited to our networking events for brands, suppliers and UK agents. Networking and learning from local partners is key to success and this is something we can provide access to.

Since Jewellery & Watch became a stand-alone brand (co-located with Spring Fair) our organisation has worked with some of the leading Italian jewellery brands such as: Roberto Coin, Fope, Blue White Group, Chimento, Nomination and Rebecca. We are passionate about the way we serve our customers and endeavour to deliver exceptional value in our exhibiting experience with Jewellery & Watch.

Kirsty Broere, Event Manager for Jewellery & Watch, said, “Jewellery & Watch is delighted to invest in the addition of an Italian country manager to the team. February is key timing in the UK jewellery and watch calendar for brands and suppliers to showcase their Spring/Summer collections.

Italian jewellery design is appreciated all over the world, so it’s important for Jewellery & Watch to partner with some of the best jewellery design houses in the world.”

Italian brands confirmed to exhibit include Rebecca, Nomination, Lebole, Ferrara Gife Gioielli, Ferrarese, Moraglione, Le Carose and B*YOU.

The next edition of Jewellery & Watch takes place from 5–9 February 2017.
