Designer-maker Alexander Davis, a former winner of Jewellery Designer of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards, says Goldsmiths North, which will take place at Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield from July 7-9, 2023, aligns well with his brand identity, and he looks forward to exhibiting his full collection there.
His pieces, reflecting his background in science and engineering, often feature exquisite coloured gemstones, sourced from his trips to jewellery fairs around the world. In this interview with Jewellery Outlook Editor David Brough, Alex discusses his relationship with Goldsmiths North and his plans to exhibit there for a second time. He will present his jewellery creations at stand 27.
Why are you exhibiting at Goldsmiths North?
Following a successful event last year, I have decided to return to Goldsmiths North this year, and build on my success there. The look and feel of the show aligns closely with my brand identity, and the clientele that it attracts resonates with my design ethos.

How was your experience exhibiting at Goldsmiths North for the first time last year?
I really enjoyed the exhibition there last year. It had a classic feel to it, with a high quality list of exhibitors in attendance. It is an affluent area and there are no other shows like it in the region so it stood out. I felt like the jewellery I exhibited was very well received by the visitors, and very different to what they are used to seeing.
What are your expectations for this year’s edition?
Even though costs of materials have risen lately, there are buyers who are keen to continue to invest in high quality handmade jewellery. They understand and appreciate where unique gem-set jewellery sits in the market and are looking for unusual and striking pieces that stand out from the crowd. I hope to establish new contacts and build new customer relationships that I can service on into the future.

What are you highlighted pieces?
I will be exhibiting my full collection including several concept pieces, and I’m also working on some surprises for the show. Watch this space!
