Jewellery & Watch introduces CORNERSTONE
November 2015 – Founded and designed by Soweto-born jeweller Nqobile Nkosi and UK-based goldsmith Paul Spurgeon in 2009, the CORNERSTONE project is aimed at empowering disadvantaged and marginalized people, primarily from the African continent.
Plans were made to initiate a training and employment programme based on giving individuals the skills, dignity and income to survive the ravages of poverty.
CORNERSTONE Creations – jewellery made in the CORNERSTONE workshop in South Africa – will be exhibiting at the Jewellery & Watch trade show, in the Design Quarter, held at the NEC in Birmingham from 7-11 February 2016
The Cornerstone philosophy is “by the people for the people” while caring for the environment.
Cornerstone jewellery is based on a coming together of creative ‘hearts and minds’ from the African communities fused with European influence.
Wherever possible the materials used will be locally sourced – thus eliminating unnecessary import costs and minimizing environmental damage.
