Jewellery Outlook Editor David Brough receives Thai trade award
BANGKOK, February 27, 2020 – David Brough, a former Reuters foreign correspondent and editor who later developed a global digital trade magazine Jewellery Outlook, received Thailand’s Friend Award 2020, granted by the Commerce Ministry for his support to the Thai gems and jewellery sector.
The award ceremony took place during the February 25-29 edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair. Gems and jewellery represent Thailand’s third biggest export sector in value terms.
Brough, who joined Reuters in London from St. Andrews University as a graduate trainee journalist in 1985, won the A. H. Boerma Award of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2002-3 for raising public awareness about hunger.
During more than 30 years with Reuters until 2016, Brough had foreign postings over 16 years in the United States, Ecuador, Venezuela, Cyprus (Middle East and Africa Desk), Portugal and Italy.
It was during his final foreign posting for Reuters in Rome as Commodities Correspondent, Italy (1999-2004) that he covered the U.N. food agencies and started reporting on the Italian jewellery sector, which triggered his passion for the jewellery and gemstone business.
He now lives in London and Hampshire and travels to jewellery trade fairs around the world which he promotes through his magazine.
Brough contributes regularly to the UK’s Retail Jeweller and other trade media, and is the “Man on the Move”, a roving correspondent for the UK’s National Association of Jewellers (NAJ).
He is also the Precious Metals and Gems Editor of International Jewellery London (IJL.)
