At a glittering reception held in Birmingham on February 21, 2016, Liz Earle, a beauty and wellbeing expert, was presented with the award for Best Jewellery Collection 2016.
On accepting the award Liz said: “I am honoured to receive this prestigious award. I am also extremely delighted that my first collection is creating such a stir in the jewellery world, especially as it shines a spotlight on the importance of provenance and using ethically-sourced materials.”
Liz Earle’s Fair and Fine Botany Collection has evolved from a lifelong love for botanicals, wellbeing and jewellery, combined with a passion to promote fair and sustainable sourcing.
Liz said: “Branching out into jewellery was a logical progression for me. To my mind what we choose to put on our skin and wear against it are both equally important. Hence just as the botanicals I used in the Liz Earle beauty range are ethically and sustainably sourced, so are the gold and silver in my jewellery collection.”
The Liz Earle Fair and Fine Botany Collection is the result of a collaboration between Liz Earle and the leading British ethical jewellers, Cred. Each piece of Liz Earle jewellery is made in Lima, Peru from 100% Fairtrade silver and gold extracted from small artisanal mines in the Peruvian countryside.
Alan Frampton, CEO of Cred, said: “Liz has been a pioneer in the ethical supply chain for over 20 years; it’s great to have an ambassador like Liz working with us in the jewellery industry.”
The inspiration for Liz’s first Fair and Fine jewellery collection comes from some of her favourite botanicals: neroli, eucalyptus, wild rose and ivy.
Each plant has been meticulously observed and then accurately recreated in extremely rare Fairtrade ‘vermeil’ – the term given to Fairtrade silver gilded in 24-carat Fairtrade yellow or rose gold.
Judith Hart, Director of The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ), added: “The judges were particularly impressed by Liz’s attention to detail and the authenticity of the very feminine botanicals she has chosen as inspiration for her first collection.”
Not only is Liz Earle jewellery stylishly elegant, it has been carefully designed to be flexible and versatile. For example, the delightful wild rose stud earrings can be lengthened with the addition of simple gold leaf or sparkly coloured briolette drops. Likewise chains can be worn at different lengths or layered, pendants adapted to brooches and rings stacked.
The Company of Master Jeweller’s award is not the first accolade for Liz Earle’s debut collection. Previous awards include Professional Jeweller magazine’s Best Emerging Designer and Best Ethical Jewellery.
Liz Earle said: “My Fair and Fine collection offers beautiful and affordable luxury jewellery to discerning people who appreciate craftsmanship and quality and also care about world issues.”
