More U.S. retailers resume operations; traffic picks up in Israel Diamond Exchange – Rapaport

More U.S. jewellery retailers have resumed operations, but trade has been slow as consumers emerge from lockdown, Rapaport reported.

“Foot traffic was light despite some bargain shopping over the Memorial Day weekend,” it said. “A longer recovery is expected for malls.”

U.S. retail businesses are implementing social distancing, enforcing strict hygiene standards, and providing virtual consultations where possible.

Trade in fancy color diamonds remained sluggish across all categories this week, Rapaport said.

Antwerp diamond bourse activity was quiet even though businesses and trading floors had resumed operations.

Traffic picked up in the Israel Diamond Exchange after it reopened on May 24.
