Natural grey pearl necklace achieves record price
LONDON, June 2012 – The Cowdray Pearls achieved a world record auction price for a natural grey pearl necklace of $3,353,700 (2,169,250 pounds) at the Christie’s Important Jewels sale on June 13, 2012.
An Art Deco diamond tiara by Cartier also comfortably surpassed estimates to achieve $428,650 at the sale.

“The sale presented a strong array of natural pearl jewels, led by the exceptional Cowdray Pearl necklace which set a world record price for natural grey pearls at auction,” said Keith Penson, head of Christie’s London Jewellery Department.
“The importance of noble provenance was further illustrated by jewels from the collection of the late Countess of Dudley which attracted lively competition, with the superb Art Deco diamond tiara by Cartier realising $428,650.”
