“Now we’re exhibiting at inhorgenta in Munich to roll out the idea across Europe and we’ve had a number of enquiries from outside Europe as well,” said Gordon Hamme, Chairman of British Silver Week, which is in its third year.
“We’ve had potential enquiries from New York, Iceland, Greece and Austria. So we are expanding outside what we thought would be our first contacts in Germany,” Hamme told Jewellery Outlook at a stand in the busy C2 pavilion, which showcases young jewellery design talent from around the world.
This year’s launch of British Silver Week will take place on April 27, 2010, at the Pangolin Gallery, London, to be opened by Lord Cunliffe, Past Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
Three contemporary silversmiths have been chosen to be the ambassadors of British Silver Week in 2010: Olivia Lowe, Theresa Nguyen and Clare Ransom.
There will be more than 15 selling exhibitions across the UK. Over 100 contemporary silversmiths will be showing their work, ranging from the silversmith-enameller Fred Rich, to the latest newly-qualified silversmiths from Britain’s arts universities.
