De Beers see signs diamond market improving
LONDON, April 19, 2009 – De Beers said it had started to see signs of an improving diamond market.
“The first quarter of 2009 was a challenging time,” De Beers Botswana said in a statement.
“We have begun to see signs of improvement in the market and expect this to continue as the year unfolds.”
Debswana, a 50/50 joint venture between Botswana’s government and De Beers, said it would resume production at three of its four mines in Botswana – Orapa, Letlhakane and Jwaneng – after suspending output due to weak demand.
