Domino expands its product development facility

BIRMINGHAM, England, October 11, 2010 – The production of innovative new ranges is central to Domino’s philosophy and to the on-going development of the brand, the company said, announcing the appointment of Siobhan Maher, a prize-winning student from Birmingham City University, as the latest recruit to its New Product Development and Design department.

The six-strong NPD department uses traditional drawing skills as well as sophisticated 2D and 3D computer-aided design programmes to create as many as six new collections each year including both core product lines and more fashion-orientated finished-jewellery ranges.

Siobhan who describes herself as “absolutely passionate about jewellery design and the jewellery industry” studied for an HND in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Birmingham City University having already completed an honours degree in English at The University of Birmingham.

During the course of her studies she picked up a number of awards including three prestigious Goldsmith’s Craftsmanship and Design Awards and first prize in a student competition organised by Domino’s parent company, Weston Beamor.
Although her role at Domino is her first full-time job in the jewellery industry, Siobhan was previously a creative intern at Links of London where she worked independently within their design department to create a range of corporate jewellery and a capsule collection for retail based around the company’s monogram.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Siobhan on board,” says Naomi Newton-Sherlock, head of the Design and New Product Development department at Domino, “and are looking forward to having her input into our forthcoming ranges. I have no doubt that Siobhan’s undoubted talent will be instrumental in helping us to continue creating the unique, distinctive and highly saleable designs which are now synonymous with the Domino name.”

Speaking about her appointment Siobhan commented: “Having won the Weston Beamor competition I did my work experience at Domino and was really impressed with the company and the design team, so when I saw the job advertised I applied straight away.  It’s a huge range so there is a great deal of diversity in my work and I’m really enjoying the varied challenges it creates.”
