GIA to host ‘Open Day’ During London Jewellery Week
CARLSBAD, Calif., May 19, 2010 – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) London has said it will host an “Open Day” on June 11 at the GIA London campus to mark London Jewellery Week, a celebration of the city’s position in the world of jewellery design, production and retail.

GIA London, a Prestige Partner for London Jewellery Week, which will take place between June 7-13 in more than 100 venues across the city, will participate in other activities throughout the week-long event.
The full range of activities, including special collection launches, exhibitions, receptions, seminars and fashion shows, will provide a rich experience of London’s diverse jewellery scene.
GIA London’s Open Day on June 11 will feature lectures on topics such as gemology, diamonds, coloured stones, global trends in jewellery and more. Tours of the building will be available and staff members will be on site to answer questions about gemstones and GIA.
“London Jewellery Week is a unique event because it’s the only consumer-facing industry event promoting jewellers in a major international capital city,” said Edward Johnson, GIA London director and an ambassador of London Jewellery Week.
“Our participation helps further our mission to educate the trade and public about gems and jewellery, while fostering the depth of creativity and talent of many individuals within the industry – not just in the U.K. – but on a global level.”
GIA London will also participate in the Manufacturing Tent at Hatton Garden Festival on June 12 to educate the public on diamonds, the Four Cs and how to read a GIA Diamond Grading Report.
Johnson and Douglas Kennedy, Education manager, will present “What is Gemmology” and “The Essential Guide to Diamonds” on June 13 at Treasure, an exhibition of the country’s most exciting contemporary jewellery designers.
GIA London’s free Open Day event will be held from 12 to 7 p.m. on June 11 at the GIA London campus, 104 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LA.
