Pearl Seminar at Bangkok Gemstone Gathering
CARLSBAD, Calif., July 20, 2011 – GIA (Gemological Institute of America) will host its monthly Gemstone Gathering in Bangkok on July 27 with Nicholas Sturman, GIA supervisor of Pearl Identification, who will present “Pearl Matters: Conch, Pen and Computerized X-Ray Micro-Tomography machine (CT machine).”
Sturman will address the fascination with conch and pen pearls and share information on the state-of-the-art CT machine as used in pearl identification.
Sturman has more than 23 years of experience in the detailed examination of pearls.
He obtained his Fellowship (FGA) and Diamond Membership (DGA) from The Gemmological Association of Great Britain and spent more than 16 years studying pearls in the Kingdom of Bahrain as the gemological advisor to the Bahrain Government’s Gem and Pearl Testing Laboratory.
He writes for various gemological publications and has given presentations in the Middle East and several other countries, including the U.K., Switzerland and Thailand.
GIA Thailand’s Gemstone Gathering is a free event that begins at 6 p.m. on July 27 in the “White Room” of the lower lobby of the Crowne Plaza Hotel (formerly known as the Pan Pacific), Lumpini Park, Bangkok.
