Master Goldsmith creates anniversary thimbles for the Queen

April 21, 2012 – The prize-winning goldsmith Harvey R Sillis FIPG has created a special gift for Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee.
Harvey is to give Her Royal Highness two 9ct gold thimbles, one commemorating her ‘Golden’ and the other her ‘Diamond’ Jubilee.  The thimbles will be contained in a hand-tooled, red-leather presentation box.

The hand-crafted thimbles, which are just 22 mm high, bear intricate carvings.  The Golden Jubilee design carries the emblems for the four kingdoms of the United Kingdom – the Rose for England, the Thistle of Scotland, the Leek of Wales and the Shamrock of Ireland.
The Diamond Jubilee thimble is carved with the Queen’s personal Coat of Arms together with carvings of the King Edward throne and of the orb, crown and sceptre used at the Coronation.

Each also bears an inscription stating the occasion being celebrated and its date.  Fittingly, the Diamond Jubilee thimble also has a 0.04ct brilliant cut diamond set into its top.
“I am a great fan of the thimble and have created various different commemorative designs during the past 20 years, many of them for Royal occasions,” Harvey said.
