A total of 43 items were stolen, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, with a retail value of $65 million (just under 40 million pounds).
Two men walked into Graff Jewellers in the afternoon of Thursday August 6. Both men threatened staff with hand guns, and they briefly took a female member of staff hostage, police said.
They fired a shot as they left the premises. The staff member was left outside the shop and no one was injured.
UK media said the heist was thought to be Britain’s biggest jewel robbery.
