Light pastel gemstones are in vogue – Groh + Ripp

BASEL, March 19, 2010 – Light pastel shades will be much sought after in the spring/summer season in 2010, a senior marketing executive with German gems group Groh + Ripp was quoted as saying today.

“Light, transparent pastel shades are currently very popular,” Nicole Schiel told The Baselworld Daily News in an interview.
“Delicate green, pink, light blue and nude shades.”
Schiel said delicate green dominates the coming season.
“This can be matched with green to mint-coloured Paraibas and Mozambique tourmalines in particular shades,” she said.
“Heliodor, a yellow and golden beryl, is also very much in demand.”

Groh + Ripp, based in the German gemstone capital of Idar-Oberstein, is also seeing increasing demand for steel-blue aquamarine and tanzanite, Schiel said.
“For the nude tones we are able to offer a very wide range of tourmalines, but also fine morganite, worked together with light, cinnamon-coloured diamonds.”
Baselworld, one of the world’s leading watches and jewellery trade fairs, runs from March 18-25, 2010.
