New Alrosa CEO Fyodor Andrejev visits Antwerp

Antwerp, September 9, 2009 – Alrosa’s new chief executive officer, Fyodor Andrejev, visited Antwerp to meet officials of Antwerp World Diamond Centre and the Antwerp diamond companies.
On Monday, September 7, Andrejev visited the AWDC’s Diamond Office and HRD Antwerp’s diamond lab, followed by a meeting where he was updated on the structures, regulations, key resources and current activities of the Antwerp diamond market.
Discussions were held on possible initiatives to boost the recovery of the diamond market and on new alliances which will take shape.
The cooperation between Alrosa and AWDC, which was put into a cooperative agreement in 2007, was confirmed.
During his visit, Andrejev informed AWDC that Alrosa is determined to continue its presence in the world market in a balanced and responsible way.
The president said that his company fully respects long term contracts it has with its clients.
Against this background, he stressed that information about Alrosa’s intention to flood the market with excess stock of rough diamonds, or to use deep discounts in marketing, was not true.
For Antwerp World Diamond Centre, which sees a cautious rise in the demand for rough diamonds following the months of depressed sales, Andrejev’s visit demonstrated Alrosa’s trust in Antwerp’s structure and solid foundations.
