Hong Kong collector acquires 7.03-carat blue diamond
GENEVA, May 20, 2009 – Joseph Lau Luen-Hung, a Hong Kong collector, was the buyer of the 7.03-carat fancy vivid blue internally flawless cushion-shaped diamond which netted HK$74 million / US$9.48 million at Sotheby’s May 12 auction in Geneva.

Mr. Lau has already exercised his right to name the diamond, which is now known as ‘Star of Josephine’, Sotheby’s said in a statement.
The exceptional blue diamond, which was extracted by Petra Diamonds from the renowned Cullinan mine in South Africa, set two auction records at Sotheby’s sale — the world record price per carat for any gemstone at auction and the world record price for a fancy vivid blue diamond at auction.
