SGL lab reports strong take up of Diamond Report
LONDON, May 8, 2012 – Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories (SGL), an international gem testing laboratory, has reported strong up take of its new Diamond Report by key clients.
“The Diamond Report is a tool for jewellers and the public to understand the characteristics of a diamond,” said Shaheen Bandukwalla of SGL’s London office, based in the Hatton Garden diamond jewellery district.
“It has been adopted very quickly by diamond wholesalers, manufacturers and distributors. There has been great up take of the Diamond Report in the short time since it was launched.”
SGL, who are the only international laboratory operating in the UK, introduced its Diamond Report at the Company of Master Jewellers’ (CMJ) latest Buying Meeting in Birmingham in March.
The Report gives a comprehensive overview of a diamond’s features and plots any inclusions on a clearly illustrated graphic of the diamond.
“The reports also identify any clarity enhancements a stone may have received such as fracture filling and laser drilled stones. Clients like our reports in comparison with other reports because of the presentation, and features such as the plotting of inclusions shown on graphics. The image of the diamond and its dimensions is printed using specialist hardware which carries out a 360 degree scan of the diamond,” Shaheen said.
“Plotting is not a standard feature on all reports in the industry and this combined with our exceptional turnaround times is what has caused most interest in our reports.”
The full diamond report can be delivered within 24-48 hours, which makes it a very appealing option compared to sending a stone abroad and waiting weeks to get the result.
SGL recently joined CMJ, the UK’s largest buying group of independent retailers, whose rapidly growing membership includes many diamond jewellers.
SGL also certifies diamond jewellery and provides other jewellery grading services including its innovative mobile lab service to certify studded diamond jewellery on the premises of retailers, traders and manufacturers across the UK.
SGL plans to promote its range of services at the The Jewellery Show London, CMJ Autumn Buying Event, and International Jewellery London (IJL) later this year.
Separate from its UK operations, SGL carries out grading and certification at its seven labs in
India, located in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Thrissur, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Pune.
