LONDON, May 2011 – Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories (SGL), an international gem testing laboratory, is inviting retailers, manufacturers and members of the public to bring studded diamond jewellery to its stand during London Jewellery Week to be certified for free.
SGL, based in the Hatton Garden diamond jewellery district of central London, will set up a mobile lab unit at a stand during several events taking place during London Jewellery Week, which runs from June 6-12.
During London Jewellery Week, SGL will have a stand demonstrating the services of a mobile lababoratory, at the launch party at the Mayfair Hotel, the Spitalfields Market, the Royal Exchange, Treasure and the Hatton Garden Festival, where designer-makers will show off their latest creations.

SGL gemmologists will be on hand at the stands, which will have all the equipment required to test and analyse the diamond’s characteristics in studded conditions
“The diamond jewellery will be graded for colour, clarity and shape – but not weight or value,” said Shaheen Bandukwalla of SGL.
“Retailers, manufacturers, end-consumers – whoever wants to know about their pieces in terms of colour and clarity — are welcome to our stand with their own diamond set jewellery.”The lab will hand out a credit card sized Certificate of Authenticity bearing SGL’s logo.
“We want members of the public to visit us so that we can raise awareness of the importance of diamond certification,” Shaheen said.
“Customers purchasing diamond jewellery need to have a clearer understanding of how its quality is assessed. People can be vulnerable to being duped if they do not realise how precious their jewel is.”
“We are providing a third-party assurance: an international independent laboratory is grading the jewellery.”
Separate from its UK operations, SGL carries out grading and certification at its six labs in India, located in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Thrissur, Coimbatore and Hyderabad.
