Prince William proposes with late mother’s ring
LONDON, November 16, 2010 – Britain’s Prince William said he had presented his late mother’s engagement ring, featuring an oval blue sapphire surrounded by white diamonds, to Kate Middleton when he proposed to her during a recent holiday in Kenya.
“It’s a family ring. It was my mother’s engagement ring,” Prince William said in an ITV interview today as he sat beside Kate, who was wearing the ring after the official announcement that they plan to marry in London in the spring or summer next year.
News reports said the ring had been made by Bond Street jeweller Garrard.
William’s mother, Princess Diana, wore the ring when her engagement to Prince Charles was announced nearly 30 years ago.
